Get the Circulation Going: Diabetic Exercises
Diabetes is not a reason to stop exercising, in fact, it is a great reason to start or continue exercising to maintain healthy blood circulation. There are many issues that can happen to those with diabetes of any type. Exercise is a great way to prevent these from happening over time, by allowing the body to stay healthy. Between proper sugar management and staying fit, diabetics can live healthy lives that do not need to be riddled with medical issues.
When you first start your exercise routine, you will want to start slowly. Diving right in can actually make you feel worse or even cause your blood sugar to get out of regulation. The best way to manage your exercise is to add a small amount of low impact movement into your daily routine and then increase it as long as you feel good.
No matter what type of workout you do decide to go with, you will want to keep the actual exercise short. This will allow your body to use the blood sugar it has to fuel the routine, without causing an extreme flux that can make you ill. As time goes on, your body will adjust and you can go longer. Make sure to have a sugar source nearby in case your blood sugar drops too low.
A great way to keep fit without having to worry about a long strenuous regime is to simply increase the movements in your everyday activities. Bring your knees up higher when you walk or climb stairs. Walk on your toes, swing your arms vigorously, carry objects when you can, and make sure to move as much as you can.
When you do start to exercise, you may notice that you are losing weight or you might feel a bit off as time goes on. Make sure your doctor knows that you have started to be more active so that your medications can be monitored and changed as needed. Diabetics on insulin and even oral medications may find that their doses change as time progresses.
Other ways to increase your daily activity and health is to park away from store entrances. This makes you walk further and increases your circulation. Diabetics can suffer from poor circulation that can cause a slew of health issues. Walking can help you prevent these issues.
If you do plan to walk, use a pedometer and get a good pair of walking shoes. With diabetes, your feet are prone to issues that can lead to sores, gang green, and even amputation. Make sure to mark how far you walk, how your feet feel, and massage and soak them once you are done to increase blood flow.
Diabetes can be hard to live with, but it does not have to be impossible. You can maintain a healthy weight, reduce the need for high dose medications, feel great, and even stop many common diabetic related issues from occurring by simply adding a bit of exercise into your life.
